The Buck Stops Here.....HST

Hi, everyone,

It was raining heavily this morning so we decided to spend the morning at the Harry Truman Library and Museum. We thoroughly enjoyed it. It was our first visit to a presidential library and I hope it won't be our last. There was a family of 8 there with the oldest appearing to be about 14 and the youngest about 3-4 months. They sat in the theater with us (for 45 mins.) watching the introductory movie. The children all seemed entralled.

Did you know?

Harry met Bess when they were about 5-6 years old. They went to the same Presbyterian church. Bess' father took his own life when she was 18. Harry and Bess moved into her parents house (which her grandfather had had built) when they married in 1919 and it remained their home until he died at 88 and she at 97. I've included a picture.

Harry recognized the State of Israel even though he lost George Marshall's support and he faced the possibility of defeat in the upcoming election. Marshall and others were afraid of alienating the Arabs jeopardizing the flow of oil to America. Some things never change.

We visited downtown Independence today. Had lunch in a cute little deli/bakery then came back and rested. Cooked steaks on th grill and ate outside. Finally, the humidity has dropped down to a comfortable level.

We've decided to get back on the road tomorrow and either head for Sioux Falls, SD or somewhere in Nebraska. Either way, I'm afraid the drive may be boring. I'm anxious to get on to Yellowstone, though. I'm concerned about the weather. Everyone we've met says it is so unpredictable. One lady told me she and her husband awoke to icicles hanging from their motorhome on July 4th one year.

I've also included a picture of the Community of Christ Church with its spiral steeple. It's magnificent.

I hope everyone is well. Keep us in your prayers.

Carolyn
